The Pioneers apparently didn't get rusty over the extended holiday break. They played their first game of 2024 on the 9th at home and won against Mesa. A better test came the following night at Sunnyslope and Pinnacle emerged still undefeated in the new year despite strong performances from Viking underclassmen. Sophomore Maggie Luba and Freshman Shannon McIlroy accounted for 32 of Sunnyslope's 60 points.
Pinnacle's 63-60 victory was bolstered by strong performances by transfer players Norah Moo and Abby Dean. Moo was particularly aggressive under the basket from the center position both in rebounding and shot blocking. Moo is averaging 13 rebounds per game this season.
The Pioneers found themselves behind several times in the first half but were able to rally each time and regain the lead. According to Pioneers head coach Erica Farnsworth "I'm proud of the girls for pulling out the win against a very good, tenacious defense and talented Sunnyslope team". The Pioneers will have a week to prepare for their next home game which is good since they will be hosting the O'Connor Eagles who are currently 9-1 on January 17th.
