After a rocky start to their season the Deer Valley Skyhawks returned home from a four game, four win road stint to face the Mesquite Wildcats. The Wildcats were looking to regain their momentum after dropping a home game to Saguaro the night before.
It turned out to be a long, 5 set night but Deer Valley won on the strength of the offensive play and leadership of senior Lilah Clark. Clark posted 8 kills and 7 aces on the night. According to Skyhawk coach Jackie Wallace "The team has been firing on all cylinders the last few game and Izzy has been amazing!"
The coach is referring to junior Izzy Darnell who had a team high 18 kills against the Wildcats. This was Darnell's second best outing of the season after hanging 22 kills on Cactus in late September. Defensively freshman Alyssa Holland contributed 7 blocked shots keeping Deer Valley in the game over 5 very close sets. The first set went to Deer Valley 29-27 and the teams traded set wins through the entirety of the match.
Deer Valley is on a 5 game win streak with their next match on the road at Estrella Foothills while Mesquite drops to 22-8 on the season with a home game against Marcos De Niza coming up.
