District rivals Paradise Valley and Horizon met up at Paradise Valley last night for a non-conference game and PVUSD bragging rights. Horizon got out to an early lead and found themselves up 15-11 at the end of the first quarter in a packed PV gym.
Leading the Huskies attack was senior Ryan Milner who finished the night with 24 points and 13 rebounds. While leading all scorers for the night, Milner suffered at the free throw line shooting 6 of 11 which would prove costly in the end. The Trojans were led by freshman Zane Graham who had 22 points and 5 rebounds. Junior Omari Gilbert also notably contributing to the Trojans win with aggressive play in the paint.
The game was tied at the end of regulation and the Trojans were able to win overtime with a final score of 58 to 56 over the Huskies. Paradise Valley coach Mark Shumaker had this to say about the game. "I was really proud of our effort last night. Even when we struggled to score we kept ourselves within striking distance. We overcame some adversity in the last few minutes of regulation and gutted out a tough overtime win. Our boys are playing well at the right time!"
The Trojans will try to carry that momentum into a hostile road game at Canyon View on January 22. The Huskies will host Notre Dame Prep on January 20th.
